VNF9Q20F: ST releases new automotive-grade power switch tube chip

On June 27, 2024, STMicroelectronics, a world-renowned semiconductor manufacturer, announced the start of mass production of its new automotive-grade power switch tube chip. The first model of this series of products, VNF9Q20F, uses the advanced single-chip VIPower M0-9 MOSFET process and integrates STi2Fuse patented technology. This innovation not only improves the performance of the product, but also brings more efficient and safer design solutions to the automotive electronics industry.

VNF9Q20F: Intelligent Fuse Protection and SPI Digital Interface

The four-channel VNF9Q20F chip, as the first product in this series, specially integrates STMicroelectronics' proprietary intelligent fuse protection function. This function is based on the patented I2t (current square multiplied by time to fuse) technology. When overcurrent is detected, the four-channel VNF9Q20F chip can respond quickly within 100 microseconds and turn off the MOSFET power switch tube. In addition, the four-channel VNF9Q20F chip also supports the SPI digital interface, which improves the design flexibility and functional safety.

VNF9Q20F: Enhanced Voltage Stability and Circuit Protection

Using the quad-channel VNF9Q20F chip as an intelligent circuit breaker can effectively enhance the voltage stability on the circuit board and prevent damage to the PCB circuit board traces, connectors and wiring harnesses due to overheating. In terms of preventing destructive overloads, this new automotive-grade power switch also supports capacitor charging mode to ensure normal operation under large capacitive load conditions while allowing harmless surge current to exist.

VNF9Q20F: Supports the latest regional control electrical/electronic architecture

VNF9Q20F automotive-grade power switch chip is suitable for the latest regional control electrical/electronic architecture. It can not only replace traditional fuses and relays, but also be used for ECU power distribution isolation and support power distribution management of the vehicle electrical system when parking. Thanks to the support of STi2Fuse technology, designers can now program 64 different current limit values to achieve more accurate overload handling.

VNF9Q20F: Integrated Advanced Diagnostics and Fail-Safe Mode

To further enhance vehicle safety and reliability, the VNF9Q20F automotive-grade power switch chip integrates a 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and fault registers to provide rich diagnostic information and digital current sensing feedback. This data provided through the SPI interface helps support vehicle-related functions such as predictive maintenance. In addition, built-in self-test functions ensure that the system can achieve the safety integrity level specified in ISO 26262 and maintain normal operation of the system through embedded fail-safe modes in the event of a fault or malfunction.

VNF9Q20F: Now in mass production, using 6mm x 6mm QFN package

As an international chip trading company, we always pay close attention to the dynamics of the chip industry. We are pleased to announce that STMicroelectronics' VNF9Q20F automotive-grade power switch tube chip has entered the mass production stage and uses a compact 6mm x 6mm QFN package. This advanced automotive-grade power switch tube chip will further promote technological innovation and development in the field of automotive electronics.
